Today’s Reading: Psalm 88; 91; 95; 108-109
“Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
for He is our God
and we are the people of His pasture,
the flock under His care.” (Psalm 95)
This is the climax of psalm 95. The author begins the psalm with a call to worship God. Then he describes why we should worship, before climaxing with another call to worship the Great Shepherd. The wrong response is given last, as an example of how not to respond to God’s care.
The point of the psalm is that the LORD was Israel’s Shepherd! They belonged to Him. He wasn’t any ordinary shepherd either; He was (and is) the great ruler and maker of all things. His power exceeds all others! So why would Israel ever doubt His provision and protection?
Moreover, why would we, who have been given more than Israel, ever doubt Him and be unfaithful?
