Superficial Repentance

Today’s Reading: Hosea 4-9

“Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears” (Hosea 6:4b), is the Lord’s response to Israel’s words of repentance. It was shamefully superficial and short-lived.

Israel continually disobeyed God, said “sorry,” and then started disobeying again; yet, are we not prone to do the same?

While we read through the prophets, let’s not think ourselves above Israel and Judah. Sin is just as prevalent and repentance just as shallow in our own hearts as in Israel.

Indeed, we are probably more like Israel than we realize.
