Slow To Speak

Today’s Reading: James; Jude

We live in a society today that encourages you to “speak your mind” and promote yourself. Just look at Facebook and Twitter for example!

Yet, the book of James tells us differently. The subject of what and how one speaks comes up at least nine times! Here are some highlights: “[Be] slow to speak” (1:19); “Speak… as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom” (2:12); “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing… this should not be.” (3:10); “Do not slander one another” (4:11); “Don’t grumble against each other” (5:9).

I certainly have much room for improvement in this area of my life. In fact, I’m almost positive we all do! May we learn how to put into practice James’ instructions without having to take a monastic vow of silence!

Be blessed in Him.
