Today’s Reading: Num. 9:15 – 10:35
So God continues to “train” the Israelites how to follow his commands. They now leave from one place to another, which a trumpet signal and cloud to guide them through. I also find it interesting that Moses felt the need for the human guide, Hobab, when God was guiding them when to move, when to stop, when to settle and so on. Would he not stop them if they were going a wrong way? Just a thought from me…
Then, as usual, things were going too well. So people started complaining – imagine that! Déjà vu! There is a passionate prayer by Moses – “If this is how you are going to treat me, put me to death right now…” oh, boy…. Moses is burnt out here. So God, in his graciousness, provides a solution for Moses. Do you notice that God asked for 70 elders? Do you recall that it was 70 men who went into Egypt along with Jacob in Day 21? I find fascinating how God uses symbolic numbers throughout the Bible…
This verse is my favourite in today’s passage – “Is the Lord’s arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you” My Lord’s arm is not too short, but his arm is so long & wide to cover all my issues and problems. Isn’t that a great verse to keep in mind when you feel your life is falling apart?
