The nameless “close” relative of Ruth 4 was only interested in the material wealth represented by a piece of land. He wasn’t interested in the people that belonged to the land. To Boaz, on the other hand, these people, Ruth and Naomi, were of utmost importance. Rescuing them and securing a future for them was his only goal. Boaz is a picture of the Lord Jesus, who also set about rescuing us and securing a future for us.
