The path to discipleship was well established in Jesus’ day: teachers only took on the best of the best as their students. Jesus took a different approach: he chose the unlikeliest of people to make his disciples. The same holds true today. You can be a nobody, and Jesus can take you and make you his disciple, to make you like him. It’s not based on your merit.
