If you recall from yesterday, Noah died. Isn’t it interesting that the man who did “all” God asked of him & who “walked with God”, ended up cursing his own son and died, just like others?
After Noah’s death, we see the Tower of “Babel”… “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches the heavens SO THAT we may make a name for ourselves…” Then, God responded “Come, let us go down and confuse their language SO they will not understand each other.” Do I tell myself “I can do it myself”, instead “I can do it through the power of Christ”, “I will make a name for myself” instead “I will make a name for God”, “If I work enough, I can reach the top, even the heaven”, instead “I can only go to heaven via my faith in Christ”?
How many times do I ask myself – “we could do so much more and better together, but we can’t because we can’t understand each other”? It is not just a language – we are really bad at communicating with each other in general. We misunderstand, we presume, we jump to conclusions, and so on. At least, I find myself doing that often so that I hurt others. Do you? Do you remember 40 days of love? Do you practice what you learn from our lessons? Believe it or not, we learnt it only less than 3 months ago… I find myself going over the same book (at least the emails I sent out) to remind myself too many times over the last two months. Re-learning is always painful, but definitely worthwhile.
Oh, no! Genealogy again! I could not even pronounce some of those names!
We finally see the familiar name at the end – Abram and Sarai. Today was a connection between Noah and Abram. It is also noted that there were less than 2,000 years between Adam and Abram. It is also noted that how people lived shorter and had children earlier in their lives. I can’t wait to see how Abram and Sarai are transformed by God in our tomorrow’s reading!
