Saul Rejected

Today’s Reading: 1 Sam. 14:46-48,52-15:35; 1 Chron. 5:10,18-22

First, allow me to say “thank you” to Jennifer for being faithful to send out a daily email for the past three months. I hope you have been encouraged by her thoughts as I have! May God bless her for serving His people in this manner.

So, superficial Saul, as we may call him, is rejected by God as king of Israel. His surface-scratching spirituality is key to his downfall.

The climax of the story of Saul’s failure as king is, in my opinion, 1 Samuel 15:22-23. “These classic verses prioritize total obedience and worship ritual for all time. God desires reality above ritual. Sacrificing things to God is good, but obedience is ‘better’ because it involves sacrificing ourselves to Him.” (Dr. Tom Constable “Notes on 1 Samuel.”)

I’m praying the Lord will give you the wisdom and understanding to see how this story of Saul’s disobedience applies to your own life today!
