Today’s Reading: Psalms 8, 9, 16, 19, 21, 24
Now we begin on the last section of the Psalms which has a lot of praise for our Awesome God!
Creation has always been a reason to praise God for! – the environment in which we live, in all its God-given balance and order – only God could create “such a majestic creation, showing His own majestic character.
So we can say as Psalm 9 does, I will praise you with all my heart! We know that the Lord reigns forever and those of us, who know His name, certainly put our trust in Him. And from the bottom of our heart, our longing is for “Him to arise, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. Strike them with terror, O Lord; set the nations know they are but men. Selah.” (Think about that!)
And then the beautiful sixteen Psalm. I love the assurance and security of knowing the truth of: “Lord you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” So the Psalmist reflects how beautiful that which God has assigned to him in his inheritance in the land of Canaan! So He has done for each of us in our Christian faith (and if we look closely – in our natural life). But in the natural life, I am filled with sorrow that many times, I don’t appreciate it until I lose it!
Again as in Psalm 8, so this Psalm 19 tells of the beauty of creation – it shouts God’s beautiful glory. It is as good and useful as the Lord’s laws, statutes, precepts, commands, fear of the Lord and ordinances. They are more precious than gold, even than pure gold, sweeter than honey from the comb! But they do warn us when needed or on the other hand reward us with great reward when we keep them.
So in Psalm 21, our hearts are willing for the Lord to be exalted in His strength and we promise that we will sing and praise His might!
In Psalm 24, the question is asked who can ascend the hill of our great creator Lord. The standard is indeed high. Did you make a list of the things required?! But certainly the King of glory, our Lord, has the right and the characteristics, which gives Him the right to ascend His holy hill and to stand in His holy place! The Lord Almighty — He is the King of glory!
