Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 3:6-27; 8:16-17; 2 Chronicles 20:34; 21:1-4,6-17,20
Perhaps the accounts of the Kings of Israel and Judah were written to highlight, yet again, the faithfulness of God in contrast with the unfaithfulness of man.
Jehoram was an evil king, leading Judah away from the Lord, “Nevertheless, because of the covenant the LORD had made with David, the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever” (2 Chronicles 21:7).
The same is true today; even when we are unfaithful, He remains faithful, because of His greater purposes. Not that we ought to be willfully unfaithful, but rather we can be encouraged that He will not let us go, despite abandoning Him.
