Today’s Reading: Judges 8:4-35; 9:1-57
Oh, Boy, today’s reading is depressing to read! Gideon dies and the Israelites go bad once again. Abimelech kills his own brothers; the curse is upon him. At the end of bloody fights and killings of people, he dies at a stone thrown by a woman (effectively). “Thus God repaid the wickedness that Abimelech had done to his father by murdering his seventy brothers. God also made the men of Shechem pay for all their wickedness. The curse of Jotham son of Jerub-Baal came on them.”
One interesting note is the fact that Gideon refused to be a king upon request. In many cases, people in general want to get more and to be more than what they are. Here he was offered to be a king, but he refuses and says “The Lord will rule over you.” Can you do the same? If you are offered a position of power and wealth, can you refuse and refer to God for all credits and glory?
