The first half of Ephesians chapter 4 lists seven reasons we have unity in the Church:
- One body
- One Spirit
- One hope
- One Lord
- One faith
- One baptism
- One God and Father of all
It’s not a unity that is made by us. It has been established by Christ as the foundation of the Church, and built on by the apostles and prophets. Rather, it is a unity for us to affirm or to destroy, and the second half of the chapter lists things to get rid of, lest they destroy that unity.
