Jesus said that anyone who wanted to follow him had to take up their cross: to seek God’s way rather than our own way. For Jesus, God’s way meant the cross, and in obedience to his Father he went all the way to a literal cross. For us, the way of the cross asks us to sacrifice what we hold most dear and follow God’s way instead.
