Today’s Reading: Acts 15:36-18:11
Paul was not a foreigner to a prison. He was in and out of prison cells all his life. Can you imagine how he must have felt when the prison door is open due to an earthquake? Have you encountered an earthquake? I have. It is quite an experience, I must say, although I was told that it was a “small” earthquake.
What makes me laugh is Paul’s reaction when he was told that he was released. “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.” What an audacity!
Can you feel the power of righteousness in his speech? I do! More than anything, I think he was powered by the fact that God was looking after him, even by sending an earthquake to open the prison cell. When God is with us, who can be against us? Indeed!
