Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-25; 4:1-44; 6:1-7; 8:1-2

One common thread that strings today’s stories together is Elisha’s concern for the welfare of others. The miracles he does by God’s power always meet physical needs in material ways: safe drinking water for a city, oil to sell for a widow, a son for a barren woman, food for the hungry, a dead son brought back to life, and redemption for a man who would fall into debt by not returning a borrowed ax.

In this, Elisha is a good example of what God desires His people to be like. Compassionately meeting the needs of others. Compassion isn’t just an emotion, it’s an action. What are some ways we, as a church and as individuals, can show active compassion to someone around us?
