Our perception of our earthly father can colour our perception of God as our heavenly Father. We may also have a perception of an Old Testament God who is wrathful, inflexible in his judgment. And yet over and over God presents himself in the Bible as one who is patient and merciful and compassionate, abounding in love, slow to anger. Maybe our perception of God is at odds with who he really is.
