Today Ryan wraps up his 8-part series on the Beatitudes by looking at Jesus’ final blessing: “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” We see the pressure of persecution first at work in Jesus’ life. He walked through challenging times, including temptation, rejection, and suffering, to bring God’s kingdom. Following Jesus will then lead us through challenges too. Persecution grows our faith and shapes our character. We’re called to stand for Jesus even when it is hard.
