We sometimes put a lot of effort into trying to live righteously, only to fail again and again. The apostle Paul had similarly put a lot of effort into living a righteous life, at least externally, but came to the conclusion that all his own work was worthless. All that counted was the work that Christ had done in him. We can be encouraged in our struggles, and give over to God the burden of sin and failings that drag us down.
